Estonian culinary art in an authentic tavern setting

Location & Nature

Altja Tavern is located in Lahemaa National Park, which is one of Estonia’s oldest and largest national parks. Here, beautiful forests, beaches, and historic fishing villages await you. Our tavern is the perfect stop for hikers, nature lovers, and those who wish to experience the peace and beauty of the Estonian countryside

History & Architecture

Altja Tavern is restored from an old tavern that once served locals and travelers. Our building represents classic Estonian wooden architecture, with a thatched roof and simple, rustic design. The atmosphere of the tavern takes you back in time and gives you the opportunity to experience the way of life of our ancestors

Altja
fishing village

Altja is a typical coastal village where houses are situated along a single village street. Located in Lahemaa National Park, the Altja fishing village is first mentioned in written sources in 1465. Today, in Altja, you can see the Uustalu and Toomarahva typical coastal farms from the late 19th century and early 20th century. On the Altja peninsula, you can see restored net sheds. The village also has a swing site and the Altja tavern, which offers traditional Estonian dishes. Interesting fact: In the water near the net sheds is the Great Stone. Coastal people say that while storks brought children to the inland residents, Altja village children were brought from behind this stone in the water. Therefore, the stone is also called the Baby Stone

Kaerajaan, a restaurant of modern Estonian cuisine located in Tallinn’s Town Hall Square  offers a unique dining experience across two floors. The dishes are prepared using the best seasonal and local ingredients, giving old Estonian food classics a modern twist.

The building of Berlin Tavern, located in the center of Rakvere, has hosted various eateries for over 150 years and still offers hearty meals in a historical setting today. Although the house’s colorful past hints at frothy beer and lively innkeepers, today’s Berlin is a much calmer gastropub, offering healthy food alongside good beer.
